5 March 1997: CONTAMINANTS Mycotoxins - EC Permitted Levels

MAFF Letter, 5 March 1997

Mycotoxins - EC Permitted Levels

The MAFF letter reports the discussion held at a meeting on the 3 March. The meeting considered a working document entitled: "Sampling plan for aflatoxin analysis in some commodities" which had been circulated just before the meeting and is attached to the letter.

The sampling plans contained in the document have not been agreed and MAFF believes that there will need to be some compromise between how representative a sample is and the practicalities of taking and analysing the sample. The document introduces the concept of a prevention limit, which should be adhered to by the importer/supplier. The Working Group agreed that such a limit could only be used as a guideline and the document will be revised accordingly.

There was also discussion of another working document on sample preparation and methods of analysis. The document will be subject to revision and MAFF indicate that there will circulate the revised version. The next meeting is scheduled for 28 April.
