ADDITIVES - Authorisation of potassium diacetate as food additive

The following is an extract from the Minutes of the General Affairs Council meeting held in Brussels on 11 December 2012

The Council decided not to oppose the adoption of a Commission decision authorising potassium diacetate for use as an alternative to the food additive sodium diacetate (E 262) which is used as a growth inhibitor of microorganisms (14709/12).

The Commission decision is subject to the so called regulatory procedure with scrutiny. This means that now that the Council has given its consent, the Commission may adopt it, unless the European Parliament objects.
