GMOs – Council Discussions on GMOs: No qualified majority

Extract from the minutes of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council Meeting:

The Council noted the absence of a qualified majority necessary to reach a decision in favour or against the following two proposals:

a) for a Decision authorising the placing on the market of products containing or produced from genetically modified oilseed rape T45 (ACS-BNØØ8-2) resulting from the commercialisation of this oilseed rape in third countries until 2005 pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council ( 15039/08 ), and

b) for a Decision authorising the placing on the market in accordance with Directive 2001/18/EC of a carnation ( Dianthus caryophullus L., line 123.8.12) genetically modified for flower colour ( 16271/08), respectively.

The Council having concluded its proceedings on this file, the Commission is now entitled to finalise the decision-making procedure on both issues.
