GM FOOD – EU circulates questionnaire on legal controls for GM food and feed

Questionnaire for member states on the implementation of Regulation (EC) 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and the Council on genetically modified food and feed. Responses are requested by: 23 February 2004

The FSA are seeking responses to the questions posed by the Commission on the implementation of Regulation (EC) 1829/2003 on genetically modified food and feed.

Article 48 of the regulation requires the Commission to forward to the European Parliament and the Council a report on the implementation of this measure by 7 November 2005 . In order to prepare this report, the Commission has circulated member states with a questionnaire. This has the following objectives:

• to describe the experiences member states have had in implementing the regulation
• to identify any difficulties which may have arisen in implementing the regulation
• to make recommendations on strengthening the consistency and efficiency of the regulation, if required

Responses are required by the Food Standards Agency no later than 23 February 2005 . This deadline is necessitated by the deadline set by the Commission for the return of responses by member states of 4 March 2005 .
