OFFICIAL CONTROL - Parliamentary Committee Considers the Proposed Official Feed and Food Controls

The following relates to activities of the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Policy Committee at its meeting on the 26 and 27 November

The ENVI Committee will adopt a draft report (Marit PAULSEN, ELDR, Sweden) on official feed and food controls. In the past Community rules were adopted separately. As the sectoral approach has not proven useful, the Commission now suggests a Regulation comprising the entire range of activities covered by law. Key issues of the proposal are a fee system, enforcement measures and the imposition of sanctions at national and Community level. The Rapporteur tables 27 amendments which are mainly aimed at tightening up the provisions on controls in order to improve the protection of consumers; she also suggests a different method of calculating the fees to be imposed on business operators and to oblige Member States to publish the name of operators in breach of the legislation

Amendments tabled:106
Adoption in Plenary : January I
