CONTAMINANTS - Draft proposals for harmonised limits for tin

The FSA have received a copy of a draft Commission proposal (SANCO 1034/2002-1) which proposes harmonised limits for tin in foods. This proposes a general limit for canned foods of 200 mg/kg. A specific limit of 50 mg/kg would apply to canned beverages; processed cereal-based foods and baby foods for infants and young children; and infant formula. The draft proposal will be discussed at the next Commission Working Group meeting on 6 December.
