NOVEL FOODS - Commission Discussion Paper: Evaluation of Regulation (EC) No 258/97 of the European Parliament concerning novel foods and novel food ingredients

The Novel Food Regulation (EC) No 258/97 came into force on the 15th May 1997, introducing a statutory pre-market approval system for GM and non-GM novel foods that did not have a history of consumption in the European Union. The Commission has prepared a Discussion Paper on the evaluation of this Regulation, and has invited comments, which should be forwarded to no later than the 30 September 2002.

Please note that the Commission intends to publish comments on its web page and remarks should be limited to a maximum length of two pages.
