LABELLING - Food labelling and allergies

Report on the proposal for a European Parliament and Council directive amending Directive 2000/13/EC as regards indication of the ingredients present in foodstuffs (COM(2001) 433 - C5-0404/2001 - 2001/0199(COD))

Parliament approved the Commission proposal which will abolish the so-called '25% rule'. This rule allowed components of compound ingredients that make up less than 25% of the finished product not to be included in the list of ingredients. Amendments were adopted demanding that celery and celery products, mustard and lupin be added to the list of allergenic ingredients.
