GMOs
A public debate will be held on the Commission's proposed Regulation for the traceability and labelling of GMO (IP/01/1095), and the Presidency has submitted a set of questions to steer discussions on this proposal, which will be presented to Ministers by Commissioner Wallström. The proposal provides for the traceability of both GMOs and products produced from GMOs. The proposal foresees that traceability will facilitate monitoring, accurate labelling and withdrawal of products from the market, should they present a potential risk. The Commissioner will also address Ministers on the related issue of authorisations of GMOs.
