PACKAGING - Food Contact Materials: Two New Directives

The letter enclosed for information copies of the versions of two Directives that were unanimously adopted by the Standing Committee on Food at its meeting on 13 and 14 June 2001. The Directives concerned are the one amending Directive 90/128/EEC for the sixth time and another on the use of certain epoxy derivatives (the so-called BADGE directive).

The versions enclosed with the letter, although the ones adopted by the Committee, are not the official versions; those will be the ones published in the Official Journal of the European Communities at a later date. Both Directives come into force twenty days after publication in the Official Journal.

There will of course be full consultation on proposed regulations to implement these Directives.
