20 April 2000: PARNUTS - Draft Amending Directives relating to Processed Cereal-Based Foods, Baby Foods for Infants and Young Children, and Infant Formulae and Follow-on Formulae

FSA Letter, 20 April 2000

Draft Amending Directives relating to Processed Cereal-Based Foods, Baby Foods for Infants and Young Children, and Infant Formulae and Follow-on Formulae

The Commission has issued drafts amendments which would amend Directives 96/5/EC and 91/321/EEC. Both Directives currently have a general maximum residue limit for any individual pesticide of 0.01 mg/kg. However, following a review of the acceptable daily intake (ADI) of pesticides by the Scientific Committee on Food, the Commission is proposing that, for those pesticides with an ADI below about 0.0005 mg/kg bodyweight, their use should be prohibited in agricultural products for use in the production of processed cereal-based foods, baby foods, infant formulae and follow-on formulae.

The proposals therefore list 27 pesticides which have ADIs below that specified. Comments on the proposals are requested by the FSA before 10 May.
