RISK ASSESSMENT - FoodDrinkEurope: Statement on transparency of EU risk assessment model

FoodDrinkEurope welcomes the recent conclusion of the trilogue negotiations on the “transparency and sustainability of the EU risk assessment in the food chain”. Europe’s food and drink industry agrees with the objective of the European Commission’s proposal to make the risk assessment process more transparent, and to enhance consumer trust.

FoodDrinkEurope appreciates that the final agreement considers suitable and appropriate protection for innovation in the market approval process – in particular for novel foods and food improvement agents.

FoodDrinkEurope sees that this agreement strikes a balance between necessary public access to information and the legitimate protection of innovation of our industry, which is essential to the future of the agri-food sector. This will ensure a positive investment environment for EU food and drink companies.

FoodDrinkEurope therefore calls for this agreement to be supported in the upcoming ENVI Committee and Plenary votes, and remains available to participate in the implementation of this legislation in the coming years.
