NOVEL FOODS - Commission consultation: Draft Regulation establishing the Union list of novel foods in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and of the Council on novel foods

The Commission has published a draft Impelmenting Regulation for consultation. The following are the introductory recitals in the document. The full draft Regulation is available on this site as well a document containing a draft Annex. The consultation closes on the 2 November 2017. (1) Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 lays down rules for the placing on the market and use of novel foods within the Union. 

(2) Pursuant to Article 8 of Regulation (EU) 2015/2283, the Commission has to establish the Union list of novel foods authorised or notified under Regulation (EC) No 258/97 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 1997 concerning novel foods and novel food ingredients2.

(3) The Union list of novel foods is to apply without prejudice to other provisions laid down in sector specific legislation.

(4) The measures provided for in this Regulation are in accordance with the opinion of the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed,
