ADDITIVES – Council Discussions: Authorisation of food additives
The following is an extract from the minutes of the Competitiveness Council Meeting on the 29 May 2017:
The Council decided not to oppose the adoption of the two following Commission regulations:
- a regulation authorising the use of silicon dioxide (E 551) as an anti-caking agent in potassium nitrate (E 252) (8769/17)
- a regulation authorising the use of potassium carbonate (E 501) as stabilizer and acidity regulator on peeled, cut and shredded fruit and vegetables (8782/17)
The Commission regulations are subject to the regulatory procedure with scrutiny. This means that now that the Council has given its consent, the Commission may adopt them, unless the European Parliament objects.
