ADDITIIVES – Council discussions: Authorisation of Steviol glycosides as a sweetener in food

The following is an extract from the minutes of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council Meeting on 15 February 2016:

The Council decided not to oppose the adoption of the following two Commission regulations:

a regulation authorising the use of steviol glycosides (E 960) as a sweetener added to the energy-reduced or with no added sugars beverages (5241/16)

a regulation authorising the use of steviol glycosides as a sweetener added to mustard (5234/16).

The Commission regulations are subject to the so called regulatory procedure with scrutiny. This means that now that the Council has given its consent, the Commission may adopt them, unless the European Parliament objects.
