Nutrition panel - Vitamins and minerals

Optional additions to the nutrition information panel include the specified vitamins and minerals listed in Annex XIII of the Regulation. When information is provided for vitamins and minerals, it must also include the % NRV per 100 g or per 100 ml but may, in addition, be given on a per portion and/or per consumption unit basis. However, they can only be included if they meet the requirement for a 'significant amount' as set out in the Annex:

'Significant Amount':

  • 15% of the nutrient reference values ... supplied by 100 g or 100 ml in the case of products other than beverages,
  • 7,5% of the nutrient reference values ... supplied by 100 ml in the case of beverages, or,
  • 15% of the nutrient reference values ... per portion if the package contains only a single portion,

Here are two examples showing this in use.

The first example is limited to providing information on calcium. It is taken from a pack of Grated cheddar cheese. Here the calcium is listed indicating that the quantity present in 100g (724mg) represents 91% of the NRV (which is given in the Table in Annex XIII as 800mg):

This second example below provides details on nearly all the optional vitamins and minerals. The data is taken from a powdered Meal replacement for weight control product:
