Alcoholic strength

Note: Rules for wine of fresh grapes, including fortified wines and grape must (other than that which is unfermented and not containing added spirit, whether or not containing added sugar or other sweetening matter:) are provided by the specific legislation for these products - the details are not given here.

Requirement (Article 28 and Annex XII)

The actual alcoholic strength by volume of beverages containing more than 1,2% by volume of alcohol must be indicated by a figure to not more than one decimal place. It shall be followed by the symbol ‘% vol.’ and may be preceded by the word ‘alcohol’ or the abbreviation ‘alc’. The alcoholic strength shall be determined at 20 °C.
