It is authorised information provided to the WHO by the relevant government. The project would welcome additional material in the usual FLIP2000 format.</font></i></b></h5> <h3>Food safety administration</h3> The Director of Health has the responsibility for the administration of the food safety programme. Food inspection is carried out by a small Health Inspectorate which enforces local legislation. <p> Food safety education is carried out by the Health Department. There are limited facilities for food analysis but any major or complex sample is sent to New Zealand for analysis. <p> <h3>Food legislation</h3> The legislation only covers food establishment sanitation, food handler hygiene and general food safety. <p> Licensing and registration of food premises are carried out by a licensing authority on the approval of the Health Department. The Director of Health has the authority to close premises that do not meet health requirements. <p> Foodborne diseases are notifiable and records are compiled by the Health Department. <p> <p> <hr> <a href="http://www.reading.ac.uk/foodlaw/flip2000/flip2000.htm">Back to FLIP2000 Main Page</a> <hr>
