What we do

Business Services team provides financial and business systems support to Estates and Facilities.

Our responsibilities

  • Establishment and maintenance of effective financial control systems.
  • Recharging of costs to other internal and external customers (via Wren system).
  • Operation and development of the Estates and Facilities Help Desk, which forms the focal point for all job requests logged via the Wren system.

Each year, the Department logs and processes:

  • In excess of 15,000 job requests (received via the telephone or the E&F web portal).
  • Over 8000 purchase to pay invoices processed.
  • More than 53000 staff timesheet entries.

Business Services is responsible for the development, maintenance and day-to-day running of the Wren system, Wren is used to log and manage the work undertaken by E&F departments, this includes allowing users across the University to request jobs via the E&F portal.

Wren is a family of sotware products used through out E&F, including:

  • Wren - Maintenance, Grounds, Project & Design, Estates Management, Portering and Cleaning Services
  • Wren Mail – Main software used by Postal Services.
  • Wren Security – Parking, lost & found and other related security issues.
  • Wren Scheduler – Software that allows Wren to communicate with other University software.
  • UOR modules – Software provided to external consultants/contractors, which allows them to upload data into the Wren system eg. asset management, asbestos & condition surveys.
