Making sense of

Modern French and German

an INSET course on French and German language and culture

for teachers of AS/A2 Level

Monday 9th
to Thursday 12th July 2007

We in the School of Languages and European Studies are delighted to announce the First INSET course for teachers of AS/A2 Level French and German in July 2007.

Aim of the course

How can grammar be made easy and accessible?  How can teachers incorporate web resources into language classes?  How can different genres and text types be approached in a modern foreign language?  We aim to address these issues and more in this exciting new course.  As requested by teachers, no specific AS/A2 Level syllabus will colour the content of the various topics on offer.

Course timing and content

The course runs from Monday 9th July to Thursday 12th July 2007, with French topics on Monday and Tuesday and German topics on Wednesday and Thursday.  The following topics will be covered; the topics have links which will take you to a description of content (to be added).

French: French tenses made easy; The internet for language teaching; Goldilocks revisited - telling tales in the language classroom; Video classroom - education with vision.

German: German grammar made easy?; Germany's "doppelte Vergangenheitsbewältigung"; Trends in contemporary German; Genres and text-types.

Course elements will run for a morning or an afternoon session.  Registration will be allowed for individual topics; i.e., participants can sign up for elements which interest them, or for an entire week's programme.

Morning sessions begin at 9.30am, with registration from 9am, and afternoon sessions begin at 1.30pm, with registration from 1pm.
