Modern Studies Centre (MSC)
The Modern Studies Centre for Research in 19th, 20th and 21st Century Literature (MSC) supports a wide range of excellent and distinctive research at the University of Reading into literature in English and Anglophone cultures from the nineteenth century to the present day. In breaking down the artificial divisions between Romantic, Victorian, modern and contemporary literature, the MSC encourages a reflexive approach to literary studies in order to deepen our understanding of the discipline and of the modern world itself. As well as promoting research at Reading, the MSC fosters collaborative research within the United Kingdom and internationally.
The MSC provides a stimulating and supportive environment for research on all aspects of modern literature at all levels from MA and PhD students through postdoctoral fellows to established academics. Current research within the MSC is focussed within five main strands:
- Poetry and Poetics
- Victorian Modernities
- Literature and Science
- Diasporism, Transatlanticism and Minority Literatures
- Samuel Beckett
The MSC hosts a regular seminar series as well as conferences, readings and other events. See the current list of events on the poster. Modern Seminars Spring 2010
