MSC - Diasporism, Transatlanticism and Minority Literatures
This strand brings together the exploration of transatlantic literary and cultural trends and research on Irish, Scottish, Caribbean and Jewish literature within the Modern Studies Centre. Our work in American literature inflects the themes of diasporism and imperialism with a distinct transatlantic perspective. At the same time, our work on minority literatures combines incisive scholarship with a consciousness of the public and political implications of research on race, nationalism and culture.
Researchers working within this strand include:
- Professor Bryan Cheyette (co-ordinator) - Jewish literature, diasporism
- Dr David Brauner - Jewish American fiction, contemporary American literature
- Dr Alison Donnell - Caribbean literature, Black British literature
- Dr John Holmes - transatlantic trends in modern poetry, science in British and American culture
- Dr Ronan McDonald - Irish literature
- Dr Matthew Scott - transatlantic romanticism
- Professor Peter Stoneley - queer culture, the performing arts, American fiction
