The Department has extensive international links and welcomes students from all parts of the world at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are particularly eager to encourage new applications from students within the wider EU and beyond. Many of our members of staff have considerable academic experience outside the confines of the UK, in particular in Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, Australasia, the Middle and Far East. Recently, successful applicants have come from all of those places and a selection of current or very recently graduated students would inlcude those from Japan, Iran, Egypt, Taiwan and the USA. The director of our international programme, Dr Matthew Scott, would welcome enquiries from anyone interested in working with us. Alternatively, please feel free to contact other members of staff, either those directing MA programmes or those with specific, relevant interests.
Apart from regularly enrolled degree candidates, each year we welcome a number of visiting undergraduate students from European and American universities who study alongside our full-time home students. These come from a vast network of links that we have established within the EU and beyond. Many are from France, Italy, Spain, Germany and the USA but our connections are expanding all the time. Further information on modules available and the application process can be obtained from the University's Study Abroad Office.
As well as visiting students, who add a good deal to the culture of learning at Reading, our own students have the opportunity to enjoy overseas study. We have established on-going links with universities in the USA, Canada and Australia where students can undertake part of their degree courses during Part Two (the second year of study). We also have vital and expanding links within the Erasmus programme that takes students abroad to participating universities in their second year. At present, we have connections with exciting degree programmes in Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic and France. Related staff mobility programmes enable visiting members of faculty to come to Reading from Spain, Italy and Germany to teach here, with our own staff travelling there. We are also pleased to enjoy ongoing links with China and have hosted a number of visiting scholars in the department over the last few years. We regularly host visiting speakers (both academic scholars and literary writers) who come from many different parts of the world to participate in our various on-going functions and events. Recently, we have enjoyed visits from poets from the Caribbean, New Zealand and the USA.
An International Foundation Programme, which provides access to most University of Reading degree programmes, is also available, aimed at international students without the normal undergraduate entry requirements for this course.
