Members of the Institute of Education are involved in a range of research activities:

• Editorship of journals:
  - Language and Education
  - British Journal of Educational Studies
  - Journal of Research in Reading

• Consultative roles with government departments and Local Authorities,
  
  
• Hosting our own Open Seminars Series - Institute of Education Research Seminars,
  
  
• Hosting and co-hosting a range of conferences with partner organisations:
  - ESRC sponsored seminar on vocabulary, with the M4 Applied Linguistics Research Group (with University of Swansea and the University of the West of England),
  - The Association for Science Education's (ASE) annual conference (January 2009),
  - BERA Literacy and Language SIG, one day conference - Developing Research in English, Language and Literacy, 30 April 2009,
