Carols at Downing Street

Primary Music RPTs (Reading Partnership Teachers) were among members of the University Chorus who sang carols to George Osborne in 11 Downing Street on 11 December, on a visit with Vice Chancellor, Sir David Bell.

Independent Advisory Group to Monitor Supply of Teachers

Caroline Crolla, Head of ITT, represented the University at the inaugural meeting of the Supply and Training of Teachers Advisory Group on 11 December at the Palace of Westminster. This is an independent group, including unions, Ofsted, subject associations and HEIs, chaired by Ian Mearns MP, which has been convened to:

  • Map the availability of Initial Teacher Training places
  • Monitor the development of teacher training opportunities
  • Respond to education policy initiatives

Teacher Training Allocations for 2014/15

The National College of Teaching and Leadership has confirmed the number of places that the Reading ITT Partnership can offer to trainee teachers in 2014/15. In summary, these are:

Continuing Professional Development Opportunities

23 January 2014: Becoming a Global Learning Programme (GLP) Partner School

The Willink School is providing free training for citizenship/PHSE co-ordinators in Global Citizenship Education. If your school is in the early stages of developing global learning, or becoming an Eco-School, a Fairtrade school, a Rights Respecting School, or working towards achieving the International Schools Award, the GLP will support you in developing and embedding a more global perspective across the curriculum at KS 2 & 3. 28 January 2014: NQT Conference

This is a half-day conference (1.00 - 5.15) for primary and secondary NQTs. Workshops will include: behaviour management, working with teaching assistants, primary languages, secondary subject surgeries, transition and transfer. cost: £30 (including lunch). Contact  education-events@reading.ac.uk

10 February 2014: Personalised Learning with iPads

This presentation, led by Joe Dale at The Piggott School, will explore practical ideas on how iPads can facilitate collaboration and foster creativity through personalised language learning journeys and workflows. We will look at how the multi-modal device can create new ways of working, catering to all four skills and putting the learning right in the students' hands. 16:00 - 18:00; Cost £25.
