Applicants should
- possess or be likely to achieve a 2.1 degree or better in a cognate subject (e.g. music, music technology)
- be able to communicate effectively as a musician as well about music
- be able to demonstrate a high level of general musicianship
- have gained some experience of working in the secondary school environment
- be well-informed, critical thinkers who can demonstrate their commitment to their own professional development and to working with young people.

Scholarships available
Auditions for Music Scholarships take place in April each year, and are open to students who are applying to the University for any course, including the music PGCE. Scholarships are worth up to £800, with Music Tuition Awards worth up to £350 also available. Music Leadership and Community Music Project (CMP)
A unique feature of the Reading PGCE, this project runs throughout the year, providing students with opportunities to explore the power of music to reach young people beyond the setting of formal education. By participating in and leading a variety of workshops you will develop music leadership skills that will complement your teaching, acquire an awareness of the role of the professional musician in an educational context and experience a range of settings for making music with young people.
