National Centre for Language and Literacy (NCLL)

For over three decades, the National Centre for Language and Literacy has offered an independent voice, responding flexibly to teacher needs. It is the home of an impressive exhibition collection of over 18,000 trade and education publications published during the last 5 years. Our programme of events includes one-day courses offering practical support for classroom teachers and literacy co-ordinators. We also offer residential courses for undergraduates and educators from China, Japan and the USA, including teachers of English to young learners, university administrators and headteachers. NCLL is committed to ongoing research in the areas of language and literacy. Professor Viv Edwards and Dr Daguo Li have been involved in a wide range of projects funded, among others, by the ESRC, the British Academy, the Welsh Language Board, the DfES and Estyn. Current higher degree by research students based at NCLL are working on mother-tongue literacy projects in Zimbabwe and Kenya, classroom practice in Ghana, the education of Turkish and Korean children in the UK.
