Expertise and Research Interest:

Qualitative Researcher interested in International Students and Globalisation, particularly Chinese students in UK higher education and Chinese students studying A-level programmes in UK further education Colleges. Interests include sociological research in education of young people and young adults from all backgrounds; research in the learning of history and the history curriculum, and research into outdoor learning for young people struggling in school.

Current and Recent Research Projects:

Currently, employed as research assistant to Dr C. L. Fuller on Milestones Project for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust; a 4-year longitudinal study exploring the impact of outdoor learning on young people. Past projects include:

  • Assisting Prof Andy Goodwyn, former head of IoE, on an E-reader project involving English teachers
  • Collaborative research with Dr. Richard Harris on a history curriculum project involving young children in Academy schools
  • Assisting Dr C. Fuller with research on an Academy’s outdoor activity centre project
  • Assisting Prof Andy Goodwyn with research involving Headteachers and Senior Leaders in Education
  • A second project assisting Dr Richard Harris on the history curriculum, involving KS3 history teachers

Personal Interests:

Past volunteer work has included 12 years as a Trustee of a Sea Scout Group, holding positions of Secretary, Chairperson, Fundraiser; one year volunteer work for Citizens Advice Bureau and currently actively involved with a political party at a local level.
