Appointed in 2015, Dr. Tissot's main research interest focuses on autism spectrum disorders and the challenges of adolescence in education.

WHY IS READING A PINNACLE OF EDUCATION?
In addition to those who achieve awards at Master's and PhD level, every year, close to 500 or our students become newly qualified teachers (NQTs). The University has excellent partnership arrangements with over 300 local schools which employ the majority of our graduates. Graduates from the Institute have an excellent chance of finding employment - well over 90% of our NQTs found a teaching job last year.
We offer the PGCE Secondary and Primary, BA (Ed) and Primary and Secondary School Direct. All PGCE students also qualify for 60 Masters credits as part of their course. Our undergraduate courses include the unique BA in Theatre Arts Education and Deaf Studies (TAEDS) and the BA in Children's Development and Learning. Building on the success of our Foundation degree we have become established as a major provider for Early Years Professional status.
RESEARCH AND HIGHER DEGREES BY RESEARCH: A LOCAL AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE.
Strengths include leadership and management, first and second language education, literacy, inclusion and special education needs, equity and diversity, curriculum development, early childhood and information technology.
The Institute of Education is part of the University-wide Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism. Our work is designed to promote world leading research while preserving the professional mission of a teacher training institute with a local and regional role. We offer full and part time Masters and PhD programmes and the part-time Educational Doctorate [Ed.D], taught only at weekends and aimed at busy professionals working full time.
We have a wonderfully varied community of international students from over 100 countries, taking short courses [2 weeks to 3 months], Masters and PhDs. We host visiting international researchers and scholars and many staff are themselves international. We support all international students and visitors and run a special programme of social and cultural events, including educational visits.
- We enjoy our particular focus on China and our collaboration with University of Guangdong.
- We began delivering courses in Malaysia in 2012 and the planned opening of our Malaysian campus in 2015 is an important step for our future.
- With the University of Guangdong, we provide a full time Masters programme for teachers of English.
- We provide one month courses for educational leaders and administrators from Chinese Universities.
- In Wenzhou Province we deliver month long courses for teachers of English and Educational leaders.
- We provide 10 places a year for Wenzhou teachers on the full time Masters in English at Reading.
