The Institute of Education at the University of Reading is one of the leading providers of teacher training in the UK. Every year, nearly a thousand students graduate as newly qualified teachers, and hundreds more qualify at Master's and PhD level. The University has excellent partnership arrangements with over 300 local schools which employ the majority of our national graduates. Graduates from the Institute have an excellent chance of finding employment - 96% of our graduates found a teaching job last year. With pay scales to match other industries, job security, an excellent teacher's pension and better work life balance, teaching is becoming one of the most sought-after professions of today.
We offer the PGCE Secondary and Primary, BA (Ed) and the Graduate Teacher Programmes (GTP). All PGCE students also qualify for 60 Ma
sters credits as part of their course. Our undergraduate courses include the unique BA in Theatre Arts Education and Deaf Studies (TAEDS) and the BA in Children's development and Learning. Building on the success of our Foundation degree we have recently become a major provider for Early Years Professional status.

It is strongly research-led and areas of research strength include school improvement; inclusion and special educational needs; language assessment and measurement; historical and comparative aspects of education and science education. It includes work designed to promote world leading research while preserving the professional mission of a Teacher Training department with a local and regional role.
International focus
Through our International Centre for Studies in Education and Training (ICSET) we contribute to the work of a number of prestigious international agencies, such as UKFIET and UNESCO and conduct training, research and enterprise projects on issues of global interest and concern. We have a wonderfully varied community of international students taking short courses, Masters and PhD and the new Educational Doctorate (Ed.D) programmes or acting as visiting scholars. We offer an International Programme to support all international students which includes social events and cultural and educational visits.
