Overseas Trained Teacher programme (OTT)
The OTT programme is an employment-based route to achieving UK Qualified Teacher Status. Those eligible are teachers who have trained and qualified from outside the UK (and also outside the EU) and who are employed locally as teachers, in either primary or secondary phases. The role of the university assessor is to visit the teacher in school, to offer support and guidance to the teacher and her/his mentor, to undertake lesson observation and evaluation, and to conduct final assessment based on interviews and portfolio of evidence of meeting the TDA Standards. The time taken from initial registration to final assessment varies from teacher to teacher, but is typically well within a school year.
