If you are one of our single-honours degree students, there is the possibility of doing a placement in between your second and final year of study, or opt instead for internship opportunities during vacations.

Dedicated PLacement support
We have a dedicated placement coordinator based within the Department who can provide you with professional placement training and one-to-one support with applications and preparing for a placement.
The Government Economic Service
In addition to opportunities within the private sector, you may also apply for placements within government.
The Government Economic Service (GES) offer one-year and summer internships. Through GES's internship scheme you get the chance to support professional economists in a range of government departments.
Previous students studying the GES scheme have completed placement years in:
- HM Treasury
- Department for Work and Pensions
- Home Office
- Office for National Statistics
- HM Revenue and Customs
- Foreign and Commonwealth Office
