What is the School of Economics?

Established more than forty years ago, the School of Economics at the University of Reading is home to internationally-renowned expertise and offers a leading range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in economics and related fields.

Where will my programme be taught?

Our postgraduate courses are taught at our parkland Whiteknights campus in Reading, just 25 minutes by train from London.

When can I visit the Whiteknights campus and meet staff in the School of Economics?

You are invited to arrange a convenient time to visit us, please email pgbusiness@reading.ac.uk for availability. Come and explore our beautiful parkland campus and meet with one of our programme directors.

When is the deadline for applications?

There is no fixed deadline for applications. Please see further information on how to apply.

How long will it take to receive an answer to my application?

The admissions process will take up to 6 weeks from receipt of a completed application. We will endeavour to process your application sooner; however, the delay is normally caused by referee reports.

My referee has sent the reference form direct, is this okay?

Yes. We keep all references and match them with applications when they are received.

Who decides on the suitability of an application?

Each application is carefully considered by the Programme Director.

Am I qualified to do this programme?

We can only give a considered answer if we have received a completed application form. Without this information it is difficult to make any evaluation of your previous qualifications.

Will my qualification from my home country be accepted?

Do I need to take GMAT?

If you are unsure as to the need to take GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test), please apply without doing so. The GMAT is not a mandatory requirement but can enhance your application. We will advise in the form of a conditional offer if we think that it is necessary.

How do I arrange accommodation?

When you receive your offer of acceptance, you will also receive an accommodation form. You should complete and return this form immediately. Please contact the Accommodation Office with any questions:

I am unfamiliar with UK teaching practises, how will I be taught on a programme in the School of Economics?

Will there be other students my age?

The majority of our students are in their early to mid twenties; we do also have a small number of students in their late twenties to early thirties.

Is there a mix of nationalities among students?

Currently we have over 20 nations represented, with students from countries including Brazil, Canada, China, Greece, India, mainland Europe, Malaysia, Nigeria, Taiwan, Thailand and the UK.

What happens when I arrive for the start of term?

Before the start of term, you will be sent information on when to arrive. The School of Economics will have organised lectures and other events for you to attend in the week prior to classes starting. The University of Reading will have also hold organised events to help you meet new people and find out everything you need to know.
