Annual reports

The University publishes equality and diversity data annually to assess the progress made and challenges faced in achieving our equality and diversity objectives.

The report also sets out the equality-related data that has been gathered during the year and makes recommendations for future action.

Starting March 2018, our annual Gender Pay Gap Report is also available in this section. Employers with more than 250 staff are required by law to publish the following figures annually.

    • Increased the diversity on the University Executive Board (now 25% female, up from 14% last year), through the appointment of Professors Parveen Yaqoob and Dominic Zaum in our first UEB Job Share..
    • Percentage of female professors across the University has increased to 34.6% in 2017/18 (compared to the latest available national figure of 24.6% as at 2016/17).
    • Two successful school Athena Swan awards: Silver for the School of the Built Environment and Silver for the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences..
    • Submission for a Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, with development of the associated REC Action Plan.
    • Reduced the attainment gap between our BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) and White undergraduate students to 10.8% (from 16.7% in 2016/17).
    • Highest ever Stonewall Workplace Equality Index ranking (138 across all employers in the Stonewall WEI 2018, compared to 168 in the previous year).
    • Organised two LGBT+ Ally recruitment and information sessions hosted jointly by the VC, the LGBT Plus Network and RUSU, and distributed hundreds of LGBT+/LGBT+ Ally postcards and lanyards across campus.
  • Developed the #NeverOk campaign campaign, a joint campaign between RUSU and the University to highlight our values of respect, tolerance and inclusivity for all.
  • Worked with the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust to pilot embedding delivery of The Positive Minds pilot programmes in Schools, to assist student to manage pressure and build psychological resilience through equipping students with cognitive tools and practical techniques.
  • Implemented Learning Analytics as an effective way to monitor and enhance student retention and attainment to promote the University‚Äôs equality agenda.
  •  Developed a Trans and Gender identity - Supporting Information and Procedures for Staff and Students  that highlights the University's commitment to respecting an individual's right to self-identify as male, female, gender fluid, non-binary or any other gender identity and to providing support in relation to gender identity and gender reassignment.
