The research that is conducted at the Design Innovation Research Centre has real impact on technology strategies in the UK construction industry.
We work closely with industry partners, including Arup, Halcrow, Vinci, Fulcro and Bentley to examine digital design interfaces, within design, and across time, between design and construction and design and operations. Recent outputs include:
- Learning Legacy Report summarising our research with the London 2012 Olympics on data handover
- Research input to the Joint Board of Moderators good practice JBM 115 - Digital Technologies in Degree Programmes
- Value to Clients through Data Hand-Over: A Pilot Study, Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)Briefing Sheet
In the context of the UK government's 2011 construction strategy, which sets out a 5 year plan to implement Building Information Modelling and Management (BIM), we have set up a working paper series to rapidly disseminate the findings of our research out to industry partners. For more details see:
Recent and ongoing research is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC); Institute of Operational Safety and Health (IOSH); Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Advanced Institute of Management (AIM), with contributions from industry partners.
Current research is focused around field research to develop a repository of leading practices; and developing ways to visualise and navigate design data for better decision making. Please contact the Prof Jennifer Whyte directly to discuss potential collaborations in research areas.
