Staff Profile:Dr Eileen Hyder

Name:
Dr Eileen Hyder
Job Title:
Academic Developer
Responsibilities:

My main responsibilities fall under the University's FLAIR Framework. I lead the FLAIR CPD Scheme, which enables experienced colleagues involved in teaching and/or supporting learning to make an internal application for recognition as Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow or Principal Fellow of the HEA. I also contribute to the Academic Practice Programme (APP) and act as tutor to participants. In addition, I am involved in the implementation of the 'Inclusivity' strand of the Curriculum Framework and support the wider work of CQSD through the Teaching & Learning Programme.

Background:

My entire career has been rooted in education. I taught in secondary schools for seven years before moving into primary education. My main responsibility as a primary teacher was in leading English, particularly in promoting reading. Given that a substantial part of my role in schools involved supporting the professional development of colleagues, I was keen to develop this further by moving into initial teacher training. I joined the Institute of Education at the University of Reading in January 2011 as an English tutor and subsequently became Programme Director of the BA Ed. I joined the team in CQSD in 2014 to lead the FLAIR CPD scheme.
