Staff Profile:Andy Turner

Mr Andy Turner
Job Title:
Senior TEL Applications Manager
  • To provide specialist technical leadership for the development of the University's TEL applications - including Blackboard and Turnitin - and to exploit their full functionality in order to provide vibrant and rich learning environments.
  • Working closely with IT and other departments, to configure TEL applications and their interfaces to best support identified educational objectives and provide best end user experience, for staff and students.
  • To provide user support, guidance and training in TEL systems for academics and other staff.

My background is in library and information work, and I was for several years the Learning Resources Manager at Reading College. Involvement with online information resources, and the creation of the College's staff and student intranet, led me into e-learning. I joined the University of Reading in January 2015. In the preceding ten years I had managed the Blackboard VLE, and other TEL systems, for the University of West London. In this role I delivered training and support to staff in the use of systems including Blackboard, Turnitin, PebblePad and Panopto. I worked particularly closely with staff in the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare to extend their use of technology to enhance learning, teaching and assessment. I was also closely involved in promoting the University's targets for electronic submission, marking and feedback, and supporting staff across the University in the electronic management of assessment.
