To complete your master’s, you will have access to 200 workstations with a virtual infrastructure for remote connection to a secure virtual private network, a walk-in immersive virtual reality system and a big data computing cluster.

Many companies have provided active input into our teaching, ensuring the skills we pass on are relevant to the needs of the IT industry.
Major international companies are actively involved in the development and review of our courses through our Industrial Advisory Board. Companies currently participating are Eli Lilly, Nationwide Building Society, Sony, Microsoft and IBM.
The Industrial Advisory Board contributes to the strategic development of Reading's provision for Computer Science students in the 21st century. Working together, we develop the teaching, equipment, software, and work experience to prepare students for their future careers. The Board provides a valuable view of what the future looks like from an external perspective, enhancing the employability of our graduates by supporting a learning experience which develops the evolving technical and soft skills required in the industry.

Our Department is based within the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences, in the vicinity of both the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Department of Meteorology.

Flexible study options
The MSc Advanced Computer Science at Reading offers full and part-time options, or the ability to study on a flexible modular basis to fit around your work commitments.
You can choose to study on a full-time basis and graduate with our accredited master's qualification within one year, or complete your degree through studying on a basis which fits with your life and commitments. You will be able to select optional modules that meet your interests and requirements, regardless of which study option you choose.
Study options and durations are:
- Full-time: 12 months
- Part-time: 24 months
- Flexible: 5 years (maximum)
Our flexible study option enables you to spread the cost over the extended duration of your course, with fees charged on a module by module basis.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and individual modules
Are you looking to gain some CPD points, or take an individual paper that is of especial interest to you? Our taught modules are available as free-standing training courses, with two enrolment options:
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with no assessment
- Individual modules with assessment which could then contribute towards a postgraduate qualification (MSc, Diploma or Certificate).
Scholarships are available for master's students enrolling in 2020, some offered directly by the University and others allocated by external funding bodies.
In order to apply, a candidate must have received an offer of admission to one our participating master's courses. Scholarships are awarded in two rounds. Round one will review applications received by March 2020 and round two will consider applications received by 1 June 2020. Candidates unsuccessful in round one automatically go forward for consideration in round two, provided they still hold a valid offer of admission to an eligible course.
