Professor Richard Mitchell
Professor of Cybernetics and University Teaching Fellow
Department of Computer Science
Research Interests: Cybernetics, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Technology Enhanced Learning, Online Learning
I came to Reading in 1977 as an undergraduate and I have not found my way out yet! I have over 120 publications, including four books and a specially written text for a custom book on cybernetics, and I have been involved in research and industry projects worth approaching £2m, many of these being KTP (formerly TCS) projects.
My current interests include cybernetics, mobile robots, artificial intelligence, control engineering, technology enhanced learning for control, Gaia theory - and these are reflected in the FutureLearn MOOC Begin Robotics.
In 2011 I was awarded a University Teaching Fellowship for my contribution to Teaching and Learning across the University. I was made Senior Fellow of the HEA in 2014. I made Professor of Cybernetics in August 2015.
