About Us

cb-about-newAs humanities research takes a notable material turn, museum and archive collections are increasingly recognised as important laboratories for original research. The outstanding resources found within the University of Reading's Museums and Special Collections also provide valuable assets for training in research methodologies and for the production of new knowledge around material cultures in a digital age.

Our Collections-Based Research is embedded at all levels of our academic life and enables original, interdisciplinary and collaborative work to flourish. Our unique PhD Training Programme opens up a range of scholarly and practice-based opportunities, with strong ties between academic communities and other organisations, directly addressing employability with its placement scheme and public engagement.
