Echinoderms
Echinoderms are marine invertebrates and include starfish, sea cucumbers and sea urchins of which you can see many fine specimens in the museum. Starfish have amazing powers of regeneration; look at the specimen growing new arms probably following an attack by a predator. They feed through a mouth in the centre of the body and possess up to five jaws.
Echinoderms are more closely related to vertebrates than most marine invertebrates. They have a common ancestor with chordates (which includes humans), though they lack a notochord (a stiffening rod along the back).
