Visitor Information

Opening Times

The Museum is open Monday–Friday 9.30–4.30pm and is free to visitors.

Group Bookings

Please contact us to arrange a group booking. This is essential to ensure that we do not have too many people in the museum at one time.  School parties are particularly welcome and are charged a flat rate if a member of staff is required to support their visit. Otherwise, we request that groups pay a small donation to help us run the museum, of at least £1 per head for groups. Pre-arranged groups may visit outside opening times by appointment but this will incur a further charge. Please contact us for more information about visiting the museum.

Physical Access to the Collections

The display collection (approximately 15% of the total) is housed in the ground floor foyer of the AMS building in the School of Biological Sciences. Specimens in the laboratories and in storage are made available to students and researchers, free of charge, on request to the curator (see contact details) .

Disabled Access

There are parking bays for disabled drivers at the back of the AMS building, a ramp at the entrance to the museum (the microbiology wing) and disabled toilets on the ground floor.

Building Work

There is currently building work being carried out in front of the AMS building. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, however the museum is open as usual.
