Walking to the University
Our campuses in the Reading area are within easy walking and cycling distance from local stations. The main entrance to the Whiteknights campus and our London Road campus are best reached from Reading station, and the Early Gate entrance to the Whiteknights campus and our Bulmershe Court campus from Earley station.
Whiteknights campus from Reading station
Approximately 1.6 miles, around 40 minutes on foot to edge of campus, please allow a further 10 minutes to find your destination
- With the station behind you, turn towards the statue of Edward VII and proceed into Station Road
- At the crossroads, turn left into Friar Street towards the old town Hall
- Bear right into Market Place, with the Post Office on your left, follow the road past Lloyds Bank
- At the junction with Kings Road, cross over into Duke Street, crossing the canal with the Oracle centre on your right
- Proceed straight into London Street, following signs for UoR
- Turn first left into London Road, then first right into Kendrick Road
- At the top of the hill, turn left into Christchurch Road
- At traffic lights follow the main road into Shinfield Road
- University entrance on your left
Earley gate entrance from Earley station
Approximately 0.8 miles, around 15 minutes by foot to the edge of campus, please allow extra time to find your destination
- Bear left on Station Road
- Turn right onto Wokingham Road (A329)
- Turn left onto Wilderness Road (B3350)
- Turn right onto Whiteknights Road
Bulmershe campus from Earley station
Approximately 1.5 miles, around 30 minutes by foot
- Bear left on Station Road
- Turn right onto Wokingham Road (A329)
- Turn right onto Church Road (B3350)
- Turn right onto Woodlands Avenue
London Road Campus from Reading station
Approximately 0.7 miles, around 20 minutes by foot
- Follow the instructions for Whiteknights campus until London Road, then:
- Take second exit on the right into Crown Place, the University entrance is signposted
Greenlands campus from Henley-on-Thames station
Due to parts of the route being on rural roads with no safe pedestrian access, it is suggested that for your safety you find an alternative form of transport to get to our Henley campus either by bus or car.
Alternative bus route
Estimated time of walk: 10 minutes
Estimated bus transfer time: 5-10 minutes
- Leaving from Henley-on-Thames train station, turn left onto Thames Side and continue for 0.1 miles.
- Continue onto Station Road for 0.1 miles
- At the junction turn right onto Reading Road and continue for 0.3 miles
- This brings you into the centre of Henley. With the square on your left, continue forward onto Bell Street.
- The bus stop is on the left, marked bus stop D.
- You can catch the 800 or 850 bus; getting off at Hambleden, Greenlands stop.
- Continue forward for 0.1 miles
- Entrance to the Greenlands campus should be on your right; you have arrived at the University of Reading
