Car share scheme

The University of Reading is part of an international car share scheme, which we run for our staff and students. To date we have 179 members who have registered their usual journey, which would work out as a saving of 204,791 miles a year. If they were sharing their journey that is the equivalent of 67.3 tonnes of CO2 emissions potentially saved.

The RU Car Sharing scheme isn't just about getting a lift into work with a colleague, although that is a big part of it! If you are cycling, walking or getting a taxi to the University you can contact others via the website and ask those taking the same journey if they would like to accompany you - a good idea if you aren't comfortable travelling on your own.

The more people who sign up to the scheme, the more likely you are to find someone sharing your route. This would cut air pollution, reduce local congestion and reduce the pressure on car parking facilities on campus. It would also cut the pressure on your bank balance - if you're getting a lift into University with your fellow car sharers, you're saving money on petrol and a parking permit!
