University of Reading Environmental Champions

The University is looking for Environmental Champions! This is your opportunity to change your working environment for the better and shrink our carbon footprint. It couldn't be simpler to get started:
- Take a look at the Green Impact Workbook
- Send an email to eest@reading.ac.uk and we'll add you to this exciting new team
If the workbook looks quite daunting to begin with, don't worry! We are only concentrating on the Bronze criteria to begin with and eest@reading.ac.uk will always be here to help you.
"I'd really like to get involved but I don't know where to start"
No problem! Just get in touch with us at eest@reading.ac.uk and we'll put you in touch with your local team. We have split the University into Faculty and Directorate teams, so you will have plenty of support in your area. We are providing various training and awareness sessions throughout the year to make sure you have all of the skill needed to get the most from the programme.
"I'm interested but I don't know how much time I've got spare"
Don't worry about that - every little helps and if everyone did a little, we'd get a lot done! We're basing the Environmental Champions scheme around the Green Impact Award. This gives a list of practical suggestions. It also guides you on how much effort will be needed to complete the tasks. This makes it easy for you to identify the tasks you can fit around your normal working day - you'll probably find that you're already doing a lot of them. However if you want to get on and do your own thing, that's fine - we'd be really glad to hear about what you're doing.
"What's this Green Impact Award?"
As a voluntary Environmental Champion, you will have the opportunity to take part in the Green Impact Award scheme. Find out more on our Green Impact Award page.
"So what's in it for me?"
Well, we hope that the main reward will come from the satisfaction of knowing that you've helped to reduce the University's environmental impact and make it a greener place to work. However beyond this, because we're working with the Green Impact Awards, the three teams or individual Champions that are judged to have made the most significant contribution will get a prize at the end of the academic year!
"So what's the plan? How does the system work?"
- Take a look at the Green Impact Workbook
- Email: eest@reading.ac.uk to express your interest and get introduced to your team
- Get started on reducing your environmental impact!
- Attend an optional lunch time briefing and training session to get to know other Environmental Champions and brush up on your skills
