Built Environment

At the University of Reading we are eager to follow the principles of environmental sustainability. Our Environmental Policy states that all new build and refurbishment projects will at least meet the BREEAM Very Good standard.

What we have done so far

• Henley Business School and Hopkins Life Science laboratory achieved Very Good BREEAM certification levels.
• As an act of sustainability for the environment, the University of Reading has its own bore hole on site which it uses to produce its own water supply. This can produce 24m³ water per hour and has a lower carbon footprint than mains water.
• We recycle much of our waste, and plan waste management for new builds at the design stage.
• We have ethically invested in our energy supplier, taking 100% green and renewable electricity.
