Welcome: Reading Classical Association
On behalf of the Reading Classical Association I should like to welcome you to this website.
The Association hosts a variety of events during the academic year, including a schools' Study Day and a galaxy of lectures by eminent speakers at evening meetings throughout the year. All these events are held at the University of Reading under the aegis of the Department of Classics. Colleagues from the Department and teachers of Classics from local schools, as well as enthusiastic non-specialists, work together to provide rich Classical fare for all who are interested in the subject.
Our Programme is very varied and we welcome to events anyone who is wishes to attend, specialist and non-specialist alike. The annual membership fee is £10.00 but there is no charge for one 'taster' attendance. The Association is strictly non-profit-making, but the annual fee, together with much appreciated grants from the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies, the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies and the Classical Association, pays for our speakers' expenses and for other incidental costs throughout the year.
We have an enthusiastic Committee which would welcome any suggestions about other activities which you would like us to organise and which you would be prepared to support. We should also like to bring to your attention the excellent departmental resource, the Ure Museum, which is situated in the Department of Classics on the ground floor of the building Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) and which is open to the public.
We look forward to welcoming you to our events during the year. For further information please contact me or the Secretary on the email addresses below, or via the Department of Classics.
Acting President, Reading Classical Association
Secretary: Mrs. Margaret Griffiths-Eyton
