MRI Facility

The University of Reading MRI Facility is an independent part of the Centre for Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (CINN). The Facility is designed so that it can take full advantage of the research and IT expertise of CINN, but can also be closed off to provide privacy and security as a medical scanning suite or for industry research.

Medical Suite

The medical suite is equipped with a Siemens Magnetom Trio 3T whole body MRI scanner. The system includes a full range of coils, integrated audiovisual presentation system for client comfort or functional imaging studies and the ability to securely deliver industry standard Dicom images. In addition to the latest scanning technology, the medical suite provides a comfortable reception area, a meeting room, office, changing rooms, and dedicated parking, located in a completely refurbished building on the University of Reading campus. The Facility is equipped for handicapped access. This facility can be made available to NHS trusts and private health providers. Please contact us for more information or to arrange a tour.

Research Suite

The scanning facility is primarily a research facility. Current research is funded both by the Research Councils and by industry collaboration and includes work on the modulation of neuronal behaviour, the influence of diet on brain psychophysiology, and the psychophysiology of emotion and cognition.

Researchers utilizing the facility can benefit from the wide range of technologies and expertise available in CINN. In addition to the MRI scanner, CINN also houses a range of brain imaging and physiological measurement technologies such as Electroencephalography, Near Infrared Spectroscopy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Peripheral Psychophysiology and Eye-tracking, that can be used in conjunction with the scanner for multi-platform applications.
