Chemistry scholarships

There are three types of entrance award for which students may be eligible (updated Jan 2012).

  1. Department of Chemistry Entrance Scholarships
  2. Entrance Awards
  3. Overseas Travel Scholarship

1) Department of Chemistry Entrance Scholarships 2012 - £1,000

Students entering to study Chemistry in 2012 who achieve one of the following sets of qualifications will be awarded a Department of Chemistry entrance scholarship of £1,000.

  • A level grades AAA including grade A in Chemistry
  • Equivalent IB qualifications may also be accepted, please contact the admissions tutor for further information

The Department of Chemistry award applies only to A level and IB qualifications.

* Applicants must hold Reading's offer as firm (UF or CF) by 1st August of the year of entry
* Scholarships are paid in a series of instalments over the first year
* Applicants who defer entry may not be eligible for scholarships

2) Entrance Awards 2012

All students entering to read for a degree in the Department of Chemistry 2012 will receive the following entrance package upon registration.

  • Free access to first year chemistry text book on-line
  • Free student membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
  • Free laboratory coat and safety glasses.
  • No bench fees or breakage deposits for laboratory work.
  • Free e-mail and internet access.

3) Overseas Travel Bursary†

We have recently introduced the 'Professor David Cardin Travel Bursary'. This travel Bursary is specifically for overseas students to help them towards the cost of one return trip home during their first year at Reading. The Bursaries are up to the value of £500.00, please contact the admissions tutor for further information.

Students must hold Reading's offer as firm (UF or CF)
Scholarships are paid in a series of instalments over the first year after successful completion of Autumn term studies and all End of Term tests
Students who defer entry may not be eligible for scholarships.
