Chemistry Teachers' Centre

The Chemistry Teachers' Centre was established in 2000 in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Reading. It now has around 150 members in the local area and many more who keep in touch around the country.

School children in the teachers centreThe Chemistry Teachers' Centre was established to provide a link between schools and colleges, university and employers. Its prime function is to support teachers in encouraging children in their chemistry studies at school. Moreover, input from our members allows us to adapt our courses and teaching here at the University to reflect changes in the school science curriculum and other initiatives.

The Chemistry Teachers' Centre has an annual  programme of events suggested and requested by its school teacher members and facilitated by the Department of Chemistry. Typically these activities include Spectroscopy Masterclasses, Forensic Science murder-mystery investigations, the schools' Analyst Competition, Salters Festival of Chemistry, instrument visits, debating sessions and many more.
