Scholarships and bursaries

We are dedicated to nurturing the talent and ability of our students and we want to make sure that you have the opportunity to study here, regardless of your financial circumstances.

Entrance Package

All students starting on one of our Chemistry courses in September 2017 will receive an Entrance Package free of charge to help you in your first year of study. Upon registration you will receive the following:

  • free access to the recommended first year chemistry text book online
  • free student membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry
  • free laboratory coat and safety glasses
  • no bench fees or breakage deposits for laboratory work.

Become a Chemistry Scholar

We welcome some of the brightest and the best to our degree programmes every year. To reward your hard work and outstanding achievement we are pleased to offer an entrance scholarship of £1,000 to our top performing students who achieve A level grades AAA including grade A in Chemistry. You will also have the title of Chemistry Scholar.

  • Applicants must hold Reading's offer as firm (UF or CF) by 1 August of the year of entry.
  • Chemistry Scholars will be expected to make a contribution to the life of the Chemistry Department, for example by helping with outreach activities or appearing in marketing material.
  • The title of 'Chemistry Scholar' will apply for the duration of study, as long as performance is maintained at a minimum of a 2.1 level.
  • Scholarships are paid in a series of instalments over the first year.
  • Applicants who defer entry may not be eligible for scholarships.
